Our Laundry

One of the things that is really different about our lifestyle over here is the way we do the laundry. At home in NZ it was always washed inside and then hung outside on our clothesline to dry. Of course in Thames there was always lots of sunshine and wind to get them dry.

Over here it is very different. We have a laundry which is an outside wet area attached to our kitchen. This area is open to the weather but in our case it is sheltered, we look directly across a gap into the neighbour's laundry. In this are there is a sink with cold water, The rubbish shoot, we have a dryer, a drying rack where we place the poles of washing and an undercover rake for hanging poles. The pictures I am adding tel all. I even made sure I did a full days worht of washing so people can appreciate what it is really like. Remember all this is 11 storeys up.

This is the view looking across the space between our laundry and our neighbours. Notice the way that they hang their clothes out on a rack that is suspended from a pole. Ours is the budget version of oversized pegs directly onto the pole.

This view is looking directly down from above our
washing poles. As you can see it is a long way down.
There is a danger of things falling from above while you
are trying to hang out the washing. Below is a shot of the HDB
block that we walk through to get to the train, notice all the
washing on poles

Hi guys,

I always look forward to reading about your adventures overseas. My staff keep commenting about how they miss Wayne and I have heard much the same message from the folk at Kindy in Tairua. At Hikuai School this year we have been putting in to practise a lot of the things we learnt from Wayne. ICT continues to be a huge area of growth in our school. We look forward to hearing more from you in the near future.

Bye for now,
Brendon
